Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra to Maintain 100x Digital Zoom, Potential Downgrade of 10x Telephoto Camera

Samsung is set to unveil its next flagship lineup, the Galaxy S24 series, consisting of the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra, early next year. While details about the upcoming devices have been scarce, a recent leak suggests that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will boast an impressive 200-megapixel quad rear camera setup, equipped with a 100x zoom capability. However, there is speculation that Samsung may reduce the optical zoom from 10x to 5x on this device. Additionally, all models within the Galaxy S24 series are rumored to feature new OLED displays made using the M13 material.

According to tipster RGcloudS (@RGcloudS) on X, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to sport a quad rear camera system. The primary sensor will be a 200-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HP2SX sensor, measuring 1/1.3 inches. The camera setup may also include a 12-megapixel ultra-wide shooter from Sony (IMX564), a 10-megapixel telephoto shooter capable of 3x optical zoom, and another 48-megapixel telephoto shooter with 5x optical zoom.

The current Galaxy S23 Ultra offers a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and an additional 10-megapixel telephoto sensor supporting 10x optical zoom. However, the leaked information implies that Samsung might reduce the optical zoom capabilities to 5x for the Galaxy S24 Ultra, similar to Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max. Notably, despite the potential downgrade, the handset is expected to continue offering 100x digital zoom, a feature also present in this year’s model.

Furthermore, renowned tipster Revegnus (@Tech_Reve) claims that all three devices in the Galaxy S24 series will feature LTPO OLED M13 displays with a peak brightness of 2,500 nits. The standard Galaxy S24 will reportedly share the same display features as the Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra, with the only difference being variations in size and resolution.

Samsung is anticipated to launch the Galaxy S24 series in January 2024. It has been suggested that the company may opt for stronger Titanium frames instead of the traditional aluminum frames seen in previous models. Additionally, there are speculations that certain regions may see a return to the use of Samsung’s own Exynos chips, while others might receive models featuring the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, expected to debut later this year.
