Pebble Introduces Semi-Autonomous Electric RV for the Future of Camping

Pebble, a California startup, is revolutionizing the camping experience with its innovative smart technology. The Pebble Flow caravan is an all-electric RV equipped with a self-propulsion system powered by a solar-fed lithium battery, offering up to a week’s worth of off-grid power. This sleek and powerful RV can park itself in tight campsite spaces and deploy its awning, stairs, lights, and auto-leveling system at the touch of a button, allowing campers to spend less time setting up camp and more time enjoying their surroundings.

The popularity of RVs, digital nomad lifestyles, advancements in electric vehicles, and the evolution of autonomous drive technology have brought Silicon Valley innovators and automotive engineers into the RV market. Companies like Pebble are creating cutting-edge products such as self-driving camping trailers and smart home-grade camper vans. The Pebble Flow joins the ranks of other groundbreaking RVs like Grounded’s modular electric camper vans, the Lightship L1 trailer, the solarized Maxwell Vanacea camper van, and electric pickup campers.

With a team that includes former employees from Apple, Tesla, and Cruise, Pebble has harnessed their collective intellectual capital to create an intelligent RVing experience that prioritizes nature and the great outdoors. The Flow trailer, measuring 25 feet, offers features similar to the Lightship L1, including a self-propulsion system that eliminates drag on the tow vehicle. Campers can tow the 6,200-pound trailer without worrying about significant drops in electric vehicle range or fuel efficiency.

The Flow also features a remote-controlled self-parking system, allowing owners to effortlessly maneuver the trailer into its parking space using the Pebble app. This eliminates the hassle of manual hitching and positioning. Additionally, the “InstaCamp” system automates essential setup tasks such as opening the awning, deploying the entry staircase, turning on the lights, and leveling the trailer—all with a simple command on the app. This streamlines the camping process, enabling campers to quickly start enjoying their trip. The same system makes camp breakdown efficient, ensuring campers can hit the road promptly.

According to Pebble CTO Stefan Solyom, many people hesitate to embark on RV trips due to intimidation. However, Pebble aims to make RVing easier than ever by combining advanced EV features with the user-friendly Pebble app, offering an intuitive and convenient RVing experience.

In addition to self-parking and setup automation, the Pebble app controls the trailer’s lighting, door locks, temperature, and more. The goal is to make operating the entire trailer as effortless as using a smartphone.

The Flow trailer’s smart features are powered by a large 45-kWh LFP battery pack integrated into its chassis. This battery serves as the power source for the trailer’s camping amenities. The Flow also features a 1,000-watt solar panel on the roof, which charges the battery during travel and when parked. AC/DC charging allows the trailer to be charged at home, campsites, and EV charging stations. Additionally, the Flow can export power for camping equipment or as a home backup, and it can connect to the plug-and-play Starlink system for reliable high-speed internet connectivity.

Inside, Pebble prioritizes versatility. The trailer offers a convertible dinette/double bed and a Murphy queen bed that folds away into the wall, revealing a fold-down desk on its underside—an ideal setup for digital nomads. The trailer is also wired for Starlink connectivity, ensuring reliable internet access in remote locations.

Pebble has launched Flow preorders, with prices starting at $109,000. The self-propelled/parking feature is included in the “Magic Pack,” bringing the total price to $125,000. The public can view the trailer at the LA Auto Show, taking place from November 17 to 26, 2022. Pebble plans to deliver the Flow by the end of 2024.
